Getting Started on Erie Isle

Welcome to Erie Isle! This is a quick guide on how to get yourself up and running quickly on the island, with some suggestions on characters, roleplay tips, and some ideas for initial RPs to help you get started and quickly interacting with the other residents of the island.

If you have questions, or want to run an idea by someone, feel free to contact someone on our GM or roleplay staff (look for someone with a GM or Sr. Roleplayer tag on their DCS). You can usually find a GM by sending a message to the Erie Isle New Citizen Support group.

WHAT YOU NEED
1. The latest version of DCS (currently 2.34) or
2. An observer tag

Both are available in the entrance to the sim. If you wear a visitor tag, generally players will pretend you are invisible and will not interact with you IN character, but feel free to ask questions out of character OOC). OOC text should be surrounded ((by double parenthesis)) or if you have a DCS, precede your OOC text with /9ooc.

THINGS TO DO

JOIN THE GROUPS
There are two initial groups you should join. The first, Erie Island Main Group, is an announcement only group which will let you know when event are scheduled on the island. The second, Erie Isle New Resident Support Group, is a place where you can ask questions and get assistance on issues related to how to set up your dcs, getting started roleplaying, and any other questions you may have.

DECIDE WHO YOUR CHARACTER IS
This doesn’t have to be a final decision right now, but it’s a good idea to come up with a rough sketch based on the island’s background. Are you a new resident? An old-timer? Try to come up with a basic background for yourself early in the game and then flesh it out later.

Based on that definition, select the appropriate race in DCS.

Some possible starting characters:

• A native… you’ve been away from the island, but have a history there
• A smuggler
• A thief or bandit
• A vampire/werewolf/ etc

FIND A WAY TO GET STARTED ROLEPLAYING AND MEETING PEOPLE

One of the best ways to get started with roleplay on the island is to pick one of a number of jobs which are available and use those as a means to get to know other characters. These include:

• reporters for the newspaper
• paranoral investigators
• barteners
• dancers
• waitresses
• medics/doctors
• medium or fortune teller
• prostitutes/escorts/brothel madame

What you want here is a role that will bring you into contact with others and give you a chance to get to know the members of the different groups. Don’t wait for people to come up to you and start talking… decide who your character is and act appropriately.

The following attachment to this document contains a number of unsolved mysteries, problems needing taken care of, and assorted other jobs which your character could take on.

Please carefully review the rules, and if you are unsure about something ask a GM. You can identify GM staff by the top line of their DCS, which will contain the letters GM. Additionally, phone booths at the sim entrance and elsewhere on the island will list the names of GM staff who are currently online. GMs are there to help you and to facilitate roleplay: don’t be intiminated by them, and feel free to ask questions.
